Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Director of Operations Joe Nyirongo has endorsed the party’s Rumphi North lawmaker Jappie Mhango for the position of vice president ahead of the July 2023 elective convention.

The party conducted a constitutional review which suggested the abolition of the positions of vice presidents in the four administrative regions and just have a national vice president.

Speaking to journalists in Mzuzu on Tuesday, Nyirongo said Mhango should deputise the party’s current Southern Region vice president Kondwani Nankhumwa apparently because the two “can make a good pair”.

Mhango, however, claimed he was not aware of the endorsement.

Former DPP regional governor for the North, Christopher Mzomera Ngwira, also endorsed former cabinet minister Ephraim Mganda Chiume for the party’s veep position
