The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has called on President Lazarus Chakwera to fire secretary to President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba with immediate effect.

This follows allegations by Former Chief Executive Officer for NOCMA Hellen Buluma who told the Public Appointments Committee on Wednesday that Zamba who is also Board Chairperson for NOCMA has been behind some unpprocedural fuel deals.

In a statement signed by Sylvester Namiwa Executive Director for CDEDI, failure by Zamba to show up at Parliament for the meeting is a clear sign of impunity and arrogance on her part.

“If it were in a serious country, Zamba would have resigned before Buluma walked out of the PAC meeting. Similarly, if it were that President Chakwera was not involved in all these heinous acts, he would have fired Zamba by now,” reads the statement.

CDEDI also said, the absence of the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Members of Parliament during the hearing, and the gravity of the allegations levelled against the SPC gives the impression that Malawians are dealing with a clear case of organized crime.
