Lilongwe Magistrate court has charged the Vice President Saulos Chilima with six counts bordering on Corrupt practices by public Officer, advantage for using influence in regard to contracts and failing to make a full report to officers of the Bureau.

Chilima is accused of receiving a bribe of US$280,000 from a Business person Zunneth Sattar and US$19 million for assisting Sattar’s company to get a contract from Malawi Defense Force (MDF) and Malawi Police Service (MPS).

His lawyer, George Mtchuka Mwale is applying for a bail.

However, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) wants the matter to be committed to the Financial Crimes Court.
