Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) on Thursday through Neno District Council provided relief assistance to 129 households affected by hailstorm.
The relief items included 129 bags of maize, kitchen utensils and black plastic sheets.
Speaking at Mlemeka Primary School ground, Neno District Council Relief and Rehabilitation Office representative, Masautso Dzumani said government is committed to helping its citizen’s intimes of disaster.
He said this is why government has delivered the relief items as soon as the council submitted an assesment report.
“Let me thank government through DoDMA for the prompt response with the relief items to the victims as most of them needed urgent help since they were rendered homeless by the hailstorm,” Dzumani said.
He said 129 households have been affected by the stormy rains that occurred on November 17, 2022 affecting some areas of Traditional Authority (TA) Chekucheku and Senior Chief Dambe in Chirombo, Galeta and William Villages.
One of the beneficiaries, Namadilesi Folopesi from William Village in TA Chekucheku thanked government for the assistance, saying it would go a long way in helping her as the roof of her house was blown off by the winds.
Group Village Head (GVH) Kalupsya commended government for the prompt support to hailstorm victims, saying most of them were in dire need of support.
He asked the beneficiaries to use the items given for the intended purpose.
