A 68-year old man Robert Phiri has allegedly died after taking local beer well known as Kachasu on an empty stomach in Mponela, Dowa.
Macpatson Msadala, Mponela Police Station publicist said the incident happened on Friday at Kamphata village.
“It is said that Phiri was a well-known drunkard and that on November 24, 2022 at around 15:00 hours was seen drinking beer at Chigoma village. On November 25, 2022 at around 05:00 hours he was found lying dead in a comma position near his house” said Msadala.
A Clinician from Mponela Rural Hospital has said death was due to hypoglycemia secondary to taking alcohol with an empty stomach.
Phiri hailed from Kamphata village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Chakhaza in the district.
