Authorities from the University of Malawi (UNIMA) are demanding students to pay almost K4000 each to cover for damages and cost caused during the students protests early this month.

Mary Wasiri UNIMA’s Acting Registrar disclosed this in a memo.

The school which was temporary closed following vigils and demonstrations will be reopened on December 4, 2022.

According to Wasiri, the institutions’ council has agreed to adopt a blended model of teaching which involves face to face and online.

“If agreeable to the conditions above, each student will sign a commitment letter in their portal,” reads the memo.

Early this month, the student’s protests and vigils pushing for a revision of the 2022/2023 academic calendar; arguing it had a 5-month holiday which was so long.
