Zambia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested a lecturer at Levy Mwanawasa Medical University for allegedly receiving bribes from students in exchange with good grades.
According to a statement from ACC, the 34 year old lecturer Kenneth Chisamanga received over K16, 000 (over 100, 000 Malawi Kwacha) from students.
Chisamanga, who is a lecturer in Pharmacology and Pharmacist has been charged with thirteen accounts of corrupt practices contrary to section 19 sub-section 1 of the Zambian Anti-Corruption Act.
According to the statement, Chisamanga committed the crime between January 1, 2022 and November 25, 2022 in which he received money amounting to K7, 500 from a named first year student studying Midwifery Diploma class at Levy Mwanawasa medical University as an advantage to help her pass her final examinations.
He later received another advantage amounting to K9, 100 from another named Midwifery Diploma student studying at the same institution with the same reason as the first.
Meanwhile, Chisamanga has been released on bail as he is expected to appear in court soon.
