The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has assured the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services of its unwavering support in ensuring the organisation has implemented good programmes aimed at dealing away with corruption at all its formations.

Speaking during the orientation of the institutional integrity Committees (IICS), Director of Corruption Prevention, Mary Phombeya, said the organisation will do all it can to provide technical support.

She said institutional integrity committees were introduced to root out corruption at the institutional level. Phombeya further said corruption tarnishes the integrity of any organisation.

She urged all ministries and departments to establish institutional integrity committees as one way of dealing with corruption.

In his remarks, Brigadier General, Charles Kalumo retired and hailed officers who led the department before him for doing a great job in making sure immigration remains an institution with integrity.

He urged the officers to be apolitical when discharging their duties. He also warned officers against abuse of social media by sending issues that tarnish the image of the department. Kalumo then assured the ACB that they will together fight against corruption and win.

The meeting was attended by Immigration officers from all four regions of the country.

The National Anti-Corruption Strategy which promotes the establishment of institutional integrity committees was launched in 2008 and reviewed in 2019 to deal with corruption using all stakeholders in Malawi.
