Malawi leader Lazarus Chakwera and Zambia president Hakainde Hichilema will jointly presider over the official commissioning of Mchinji/Mwami One Stop Boarder Post (OSBP) today.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed in a statement seen by this publication.

According to the statement, details of the program of the event will be released in due course.

Two months ago, Principle Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry Christina Zakeyo said the OSBP was waiting for the legislation of the country for the management of the border post.

Now that it is ready for opening it means that President Chakwera assented to it as said by Zakeyo during a Media Roundtable discussion in Lilongwe on the border post initiative in September this year.

On his part, Malawi Revenue Authority deputy commissioner for customs Chimwemwe Kawalewale said Malawi is set to benefit a lot from the border post.

The Mchinji/Mwami OSBP is an inter-governmental project implemented by partners from the integrated border management including the Malawi revenue Authority (MRA), Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), the Zambian and Malawian governments boarder control agencies.
