President Lazarus Chakwera leaves the country for Washington DC, United States of America next week.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Nancy Tembo disclosed this in Parliament this afternoon after Leader of Opposition, Kondwani Nankhumwa asked her to confirm the news.

Tembo said Chakwera would be attending the USA-Africa Summit but did not mention the specific day of departure and return.

In September this year, the president travelled to New York for almost three weeks attending the United Nations General Assembly.

He leaves when there are calls for him and his ministers to reduce unnecessary travels to rescue Malawi’s ailing economy.
