President Lazarus Chakwera and his Zambian counterpart, Hakainde Hichilema said the Mchinji/Mwami One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) is of vital importance to grow the economies of the two countries, Malawi and Zambia.

This was said today at the opening of Mchinji/Mwami One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) event.

Chakwera said the opening of the OSBP is a good news to both countries (Malawi and Zambia).

“By opening this OSBP facility between our two countries, it brings us other practical benefits including convenience for travelers and drivers, stream line processes, professional trust and accords dignity to our people.” He added

Hichilema said goods coming from wider areas like Tanzania, Burundi will help in increasing the economy of the two countries and this applies to all entries points share by Malawi and Zambia.

“For the colleagues and cooperating partners, this is the most practical way, the beneficial way and impactful way of working with us on this continent.”  He said

Chakwera and Hichilema also praised the sponsors for helping in construction of Mchinji/Mwami One-Stop Border Post.

The project has been sponsored by Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), European Union (UN), JIZ Germany, African Development Bank, International Finance Cooperation (IFC) and World Bank Group.
