Leader of Opposition in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa has demanded that President Lazarus Chakwera should address Parliament regarding the arrest of Anti-Corruption Bureau director general Martha Chizuma.
Nankhumwa made the request in Parliament on Tuesday following a stand-off over the arrest of Chizuma.
The DPP Vice President for the South said as the country will be observing Anti-Corruption Day on Friday, an event which is expected to be presided over by the President, is it only right for him to account for what has transpired in Chizuma’s arrest before thinking of participating in the event.
The Leader of Opposition said Chizuma narrated to him and other members of Parliament, that police officers went to her house around 3 am to arrest her.
He said when Chizuma came out of the house, she was denied a chance to go and collect her eye glasses.
According to Nankhumwa, Chizuma told him and other MPs, when they visited her after she was released, that she was driven to Namitete Police Station where a female police officer wanted to assault her but other officers came to her rescue.
He said at Namitete, Chizuma was told to kneel down while taking her statement and during roll call.
Nankhumwa said what has transpired is bad for the country and a threat to the fight against corruption.
Meanwhile, Chizuma’s charges have been dropped unconditionally.
