President Lazarus Chakwera has said the cry for justice in the country is posing danger and at the same time fueling mob justice which is unacceptable.

Chakwera said this at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, during the swearing in ceremony of four high court judges.

According to Chakwera, anyone who takes the law in their own hands will have themselves in the hand of the law.

“Just like last week, two elderly women were assorted by a mob in Mzimba after being falsely accused of causing someone’s death by witch craft,” he said.

Chakwera added; “Eventually, the death was a source of grief for the community and they wrongly took the law in their hands and injured the women in the process. As many as 20 people were arrested for the assort.”

He added that the cry for justice is also an opportunity to satisfy that crime by strengthening the justice systems institutions to the point that the public can trust that if anyone violets the rights for another justice will be done swiftly, fairly and transparently.
