Former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is demanding President Lazarus Chakwera to resign and pave way for an interim government.

According to a statement signed by the party’s spokesperson

Namalomba, the interim government will be responsible for fresh elections to be conducted in 90 days’ time.

According to Namalomba, Chakwera and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) have failed to improve lives of poor Malawians hence the call to step down.

He continued that government for the past two years tried to divert people’s attention to its incompetent and cluelessness by arresting innocent Malawians without any basis.

“Chakwera’s government has completely lost trust of Malawians to govern. It is not an instrument for protection but oppression for Malawians,” said Namalomba.

He continued; “Chakwera and his government must therefore resign with immediate effect and pave way for an interim government that will conduct fresh elections in 90 days.”

On the arrest of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General Martha Chizuma, Namalomba said it brings memories brutality and fear during one party rule of the MCP.

He trashed government’s ignorance on Chizuma’s arrest, saying it is a lie adding that arrest of senior public officers cannot be effected without the approval and sanction of the president, Minister of Homeland Security and Police Inspector General.
