Malawi’s minister of Information Gospel Kazako said Malawians are overstressing the arrest of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Martha Chizuma.
According to Kazako despite that President Lazarus Chakwera and the entire government were shocked with her arrest just like every Malawian, it doesn’t mean that no one is in control of the government affairs.
He continued that that is why President Chakwera instituted a commission of inquiry to investigate the matter.
“The President is concerned with the whole issue and wants to get to the bottom of it. That is why he has set up the commission of inquiry whose report will inform his decision,” said Kazako as quoted by AfricaBrief.
He continued; ““The government is in full control of state affairs, this is not a criminal government, it is civilized and therefore believes in the independence of state institutions.”
Chizuma was arrested on Tuesday following a complaint by the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Steve Kayuni who said he felt offended by Chizuma’s sentiments in her January’s leaked audio clip.
But Kayuni dropped the charges, according to Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo.
