Nightmare for Maula inmates as they spent four days eating nsima without relish

Parliamentary Defence and Security Committee Chairperson, Ralph Jooma revealed that prisoners at Maula stayed four days eating Nsima without relish.

Jooma said this yesterday in parliament as he was commenting on a vote on an increment of about K1 billion to the Malawi Prisons, in the revised 2022/23 National Budget.

According to Jooma, the prisoners started receiving nsima with relish on Sunday night.

Jooma added that the Maula prison which was designed to have only 700 prisoners, it now  has 3500 prisoners.

Finance Minister Sosten Gwengwe said the Malawi Prisons Service has received K780 million meant for food in the revised budget.
