The Deputy Minister of Lands, Deus Gumba has called on the media to help government in raising awareness to the general public on the just amended laws of land.

The Minister was speaking this today during the opening of a three day sensitization workshop on the Amended Land Laws for Senior Editors in the media for the Southern Region staff in Chikwawa District.

According to Gumba, this is the first step his ministry has taken to inform Malawians on the Amended Land related Laws so that they should know the truth about it hence provide high quality standards which Malawians expect.

“The land related laws were enacted in 2016 by parliament and were implemented on a pilot basis in eight districts in the country. However, many people, including Traditional Leaders, felt that the pieces of legislation passed had some grey areas which needed clarification. Upon hearing such pertinent concerns, President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera directed the Ministry of lands to review the laws to ensure that they are in line with the aspirations of Malawians,” Gumba said.

“Government will soon roll out the implementation of the laws nationwide following the approval of the National Roll out Plan by the Land Reform Steering Committee.,” He said.

South-eastern region commissioner for physical planning, Blessings Mpanga said the workshop will equip them with new knowledge and skills which will enable them to deliver on honesty and integrity as expected.

In his remarks, Gumba said government will not put  the media aside during this time and will do everything possible to ensure that the laws are applied for the betterment of Malawians.
