Police in Dowa are looking for a 30-year-old man, Lumbani Jere who is suspected to have killed his 19 year old wife, Mkalimbana Banda.
According to Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police Station Public Relations Officer, the incident took place at Thambwe Village, Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa District.
“It is reported that on Sunday, December 11 2022 the suspect went to Thambwe Village to visit his mother together with the Wife (now deceased) and on Tuesday around evening, the suspect came home from a walk and started beating Mkalimbana whom he just married not so long ago,” said M’bumpha.
The suspect is also said to have attacked his mother and the mother’s grand-daughters who tried to stop him from beating the Wife.
“Police officers who were conducting patrols, met the three girls on their way to report the matter to police. After hearing the news, the law enforcers rushed to the scene and found the dead body lying in a kitchen but when the officers left to inform Criminal Investigations Officers, the body was no longer in Kitchen when they returned,” said M’bumpha.
After a search, M’bumpha says the dead body has now been found today where it was abandoned about 500 metres away from the scene.
He added that, before her death the deceased had with her a two year old step daughter who was also taken away by the suspect after the murder and the child was abandoned at Njale Trading Centre unharmed.
