Following last night’s grenade explosion at Dzaleka refugee camp in Dowa district, police have arrested a 42 year old Rwandan national Umoton John Peter who is believed to be behind the attack.

According to Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa police publicist, the number of people injured in the attack is actually five not four as earlier communicated.

According to reports, the incident happened around 7 pm when one of the victims who is also Burundi Community leader 54 year old Butoyi Fedeli was outside his office in company with his secretary Bruno Ndaishime.

Fedeli then saw a person lighting matches before throwing an unknown object at them which he suspects to be a grenade. According to the police report, the object exploded, producing a loud sound.

Following the impact, Fedeli and Ndaishime sustained cuts in the legs and on the back after which they were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Apart from the two, three other people including an 11-year-old child have sustained various degrees of injury and admitted to Dowa District Hospital.

Police visited the scene where they collected a pin and some fragments.

The suspect will be taken to court to answer charges of grievous harm.
