The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) is today launching the Malawi Electricity Access Project (MEAP) which aims at increasing access to electricity in the country.
Minister of Energy, Ibrahim Matola is a leading guest at the launch of the project with support from the World Bank.
According to electricity utility body, the project will cover 180 000 new ESCOM customers being connected in the next two years.
Less than 15 percent of people in the country has access to electricity and ESCOM said over 70 000 applicants have applied for connections.
