Minister of Water and Sanitation Abida Sidiki Mia has canceled all implementations of water tariff hike that the five water boards requested in the country due to high operational and production costs to prevent the worsening of Cholera outbreak.
Mia said the water boards are stressed and they need the hike, the increase will be considered in March and April in 2023 when the outbreak eases.
Mia said, “Everything has gone up, including chemicals, operational costs, wages and salaries. However, we cannot raise the tariff now because of the cholera outbreak.”
According to Mia, although the water boards need the tariff hike and looking into how they can do it, it will have to be next year, in March or April.
