Leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa who is also Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South has pledged to construct a decent tombstone on the late Senior Chief Mponda’s grave.

Nankhumwa said this after condoling the family of Senior Chief Mponda of Mangochi at Mponda Headquarters.

The Chief died on November 16, 2022.

Nankhumwa said Senior Chief Mponda was his good friend when he served in the government as Minister for Local Government and Rural Development.

“The late Dr. David Livingstone of Scotland came at this very same place and negotiated with Chief Mponda the First regarding the establishment of the Church in this area. The Chief gave the whites a go ahead to do so and, most importantly, the Chief encouraged co-existence and unity between the Muslims and Christians. Any leader worthy of the name cannot ignore such important history,” he said.

Nankhumwa was accompanied by DPP Parliamentarians; Honourables Mark Botomani, Ralph Jooma and Victoria Kingstone.
