Vita Chirwa of Kalimba Band has been elected president of Musicians Union of Malawi.
The veteran musician beat outgoing president Gloria Manong’a and Anthony Dumbah during elections held on Wednesday in Lilongwe.
Chirwa, from the Central Region chapter will lead the union for four years and has since promised to initiate several projects.
Martha Nthakomwa from the Northern Region chapter is the vice president.
The other faces in the New Executive Committee are Tony Chitimatima( General Secretary) from Southern Region chapter, Brenda Kadammanja (Vice General Secretary) from Central Region chapter, Martha Mituka (Treasurer) from Central Region chapter, Alex Nkalo (Youth Desk Chairperson) from Central Region chapter and Mable Lwanda (Women’s Desk Chairperson) from Southern Region chapter.
