The Private Schools Association of Malawi (Prisam) has asked government to re-open schools soon considering learners who are preparing for national examinations in Lilongwe and Blantyre so that they may not miss the school calendar.

Prisam vice-president Patricia Chisi said this in Blantyre during a media briefing.

Chisi said, “The partial closure will put students in Blantyre and Lilongwe, particularly those preparing for exams at a disadvantage.  We urge government to facilitate vaccination of the students and reinforce protective measures just like it was done during the Covid-19 pandemic.”

The Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 and Cholera directed that schools in the major cities should not open on January 3, 2023 as planned, due to the outbreak of cholera and deaths in the two districts.
