The heavy rains has destroyed a newly opened Engalaweni rural hospital in Mzimba district which is under CCAP Livingstonia Synod health department.
The incident took place yesterday evening where heavy rains accompanied by strong winds blew off the roofs of the hospital buildings.
According to Director for Embangweni Mission hospital, Dr. Parfait Kileye, the maternity wing and the pharmacy building had their roofs blown off and left some drugs soaked in water.
Dr. Kileye said the incident comes as a delay to provide maternal services to pregnant women who are now going to travel to long distance hospitals to access the services.
The hospital was opened last year and it cost one hundred and forty million kwacha (140 million), where a number of 12000 people are served in the area of Inkosi Mbelwa.
