Health authorities in Balaka are appealing for donations of resources from stakeholders to help combat a recent outbreak of cholera in the which has devastated the country.
According to Chief Preventive health officer, Blessings Chitsime, the district is failing to meet the other areas due to lack of resources.
”We need assistance from other interested partners to assist us with protective materials for our health workers,” Chitsime said.
In his remarks, Chitsime advised community members to quickly run and receive treatment to the hospital when signs and symptoms of cholera shows up.
So far, Balaka district has registered 437 cases with 11 confirmed deaths.
The medical facility has reported a shortage of essential supplies, including oral rehydration solutions, antibiotics, and intravenous fluids, as it works to contain and treat the infectious disease.
Officials are urging members of the community to come forward with donations to support the hospital’s efforts to save lives and bring the outbreak under control.”
