More than 60 employees for Mchinji District Council have expressed worries over the council’s failure to pay their November and December salaries.
The workers said they are struggling financially with their families in their homes.
They added that they are tired after several engagements and promises from the council secretariat to settle their arrears but to no avail.
According to the concerned employees, the two month payments are being delayed despite the council collecting enough revenue as it is prioritizing other things.
District Commissioner for Mchinji, Fred Movete, acknowledged the delay claiming that this is as a result of the recent boycott by the vendors in the border district to pay market fees.
