A 29-year-old man Thokozani Simon has committed suicide by taking poisonous substance (pesticide) in Mulanje after failing to settle loans.
The incident happened at Nankhwalala Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nkanda.
According to Mulanje Police, on Wednesday January 4, 2023, Simon confided with his relatives that he had a lot of loans to settle but he had no money to pay back.
A day later on January 05, 2023, Simon was found laying dead in his house at around noon.
The matter was reported to reported Chambe Police Unit where officers together with medical practitioner from Chambe Health Center visited the scene.
Postmortem from medical practitioner revealed that death was due to intake of poison.
Meanwhile, police in Mulanje are condemning acts of suicide and are advising people to find and approach relevant authorities and subjects for assistance in times of need.
