Eight students at Ntcheu Secondary School have tested positive for Cholera.

Ntcheu District Council Director of Education, Youths and Sports, Sophia Rosemary Mthiko has confirmed the development.

She says out of eight, six have been discharged while two are still receiving medical attention at Ntcheu District hospital.

“Indeed we have registered eight cholera cases but out of eight only two are still at Ntcheu district hospital while four are back to school and other two have been taken by their parents,” she says.

However, Mthiko says education is not compromised at the institution; adding they have put a number of prevention measures in all schools in the district.

Government suspended the reopening of schools in Blantyre and Lilongwe due to escalating Cholera cases.

As of 9 January 2023, the country had registered 21522 cholera cases with 716 deaths.
