Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA) has given away a K982.2 million consolidated essential financial requirements budget to Lilongwe and Blantyre city councils to fight against the cholera outbreak.
MALGA executive director Hadrod Mkandawire said the budget was made after discussing with the Blantyre and Lilongwe city councils.
According to Mkandawire, the budget will effectively respond to the cholera outbreak in readiness for the opening of schools in the two cities.
Mkandawire said there were fears that the outbreak may reach uncontrollable levels if not well contained.
He has also urged the government to provide or help to mobilize the necessary resources from development partners.
