The district civil protection committee in Zomba has found out that heavy rainfall has destroyed a lot of houses in the district.
According to the committee, heavy rains have taken away roofs of 198 houses in Traditional Authority (T/A) Mwambo in the district.
In addition to that, the committee has find out that a number of 403 houses have been affected due to the breaking of water drain on Domasi river in the Traditional Authority (T/A) Kumtumanji.
However, the findings came out following the disaster assessment verification exercise done by Youth for Development and Productivity (YODEP).
Project officer responsible for localization project, Ellestina Magombo said the exercise was to find out the needs of people and discover a proper solution.
The localization project, is being supported by Save the Children in Italy, with the purpose of strengthening capacity of local authorities and civil society organizations in disaster preparedness and response.
