Transport issues has hindered Likoma Island farmers from accessing fertilizer under the Affordable Input Program (AIP) in time.

In an interview that Zodiak had with Acting Chief Agriculture Officer for Likoma Patrick Chavula said, the people of Likoma should not worry now because the government has identified a supplier for the inputs using local boats from Nkhata Bay.

In his words, councilor for Likoma ward Ernest Gulu said the delays have ignited fears of hunger next year considering the districts rocky terrain where farmers rely on the first rains to plant maize.

However member of Parliament for Likoma Christopher Ashemes Songwe showed dissatisfaction with the use of local boats saying they cannot withstand harsh weather on lake Malawi.
