A clinician working at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe has been arrested by Lilongwe police for allegedly stealing electronic devices at the facility.

Public Relations Officer for Lilongwe Police Hasting Chigalu has confirmed the arrest of the clinician who has been identified as Alinafe Likangwa.

Likangwa, who owns a stationary and photocopying shop at Gologota Trading Centre in Area 23 in the capital city was found stealing computers, scanners, printers and other gadgets.

It is reported that a computer hard drive, monitor and CPU in the Out Patient Department (OPD), where the suspect works, went missing one by one in December last year.

“However, in the first week of January 2023, the suspect, reported to work with KCH already printed documents, a thing that brought suspicion to other workmates,” explained Chigalu.

Chigalu said the police instituted their investigations after receiving a complaint and they managed to recover the gadgets from a woman whose identities have been hidden.

According to Chigalu, Likangwa was hiding the stolen gadgets to the woman’s place.

Likagwa, who hails from Mayani Village, Traditional Authority Tambala in Dedza District, will appear in court to answer a charge of theft by a public servant.

Likangwa will soon appear before court to answer charges levelled against him.
