Police in Lilongwe have arrested a former security guard at Kamuzu Central Hospital, Emmanuel Sande, 33, for allegedly attempting to steal hospital items.
The items include an upright refrigerator, office chairs and a table, and reams of plain papers.
Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu confirmed of the arrest in an interview with the press.
According to Chigalu, the suspect hired a van and managed to open the main door leading to some offices at the hospital before starting to load the items onto the vehicle.
Some members of staff at the hospital, however, reportedly suspected that something illegal was happening and approached Sande before he attempted to escape but got apprehended.
Chigalu said other items such as laptops and television monitors were yet to be loaded onto the vehicle.
The suspect will appear in court soon.
