Army Secondary School has closed after it was reported that the school was operating despite government’s directive to have schools in Blantyre and Lilongwe cities still closed in the wake of Cholera outbreak.
According to Malawi Defense Force (MDF) spokesperson Major Kelvin Mlelemba, the school was operating because there was a misunderstanding in interpretation of the presidential directive on cholera regarding the closure of schools.
According to Mlelemba, they understood that the schools affected by the presidential directive on cholera were only from the cities and their school falls under Blantyre rural.
But immediately after they got their facts right, they closed the school, Mlelemba said.
“Follow-up communication indicated that all schools are supposed to be closed and we have complied. We are not offering lessons today as it is being purported,” Major Mlelemba said as quoted by Zodiak Online.
But Zodiak online revealed that the school is open and operating as of today.
But Mlelemba said it is not true and the student have been sent back to their respective homes.
“We are not offering lessons today as it is being purported,” said Mlelemba.
