Mark Katsonga Phiri, the Minister of Trade and Industry in Malawi, has urged businesses in the country to increase their exports in order to reach middle-income status by 2063.

He made this statement during a press briefing in Lilongwe, and emphasized that his ministry will work to ensure that the economic and business goals outlined in Malawi’s Vision 2063 are met within the next five years.

In addition to exporting more, he believes that import substitution and export promotion can also help to achieve these goals.

The CEO of the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC), Paul Gwengwere, announced that the institution will recognize and honor outstanding exporters through the Malawi Exporters Award (MEA2023) for their contributions to the country’s economy.
