Minister of Finance and Economic Development Sosten Gwengwe has said he is ready for the Cabinet reshuffle as promised by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera during his New Year National Address.
Gwengwe said this during Times Exclusive aired on Times radio on Wednesday afternoon where the Minister clarified what he meant when he described the 6.8 billion dollars deal with the Bridgin Foundation as nonsense.
The Minister said he did not mean the 6.8 billion dollars deal with the Bridgin Foundation was nonsense.
“The word “nonsense” was not referring to the deal but it was a response to an issue one of the participants in the pre-budget consultation meeting that was taking place today in Lilongwe,” Gwengwe was quoted as saying.
When asked as to whether he is afraid of the looming Cabinet reshuffle, Gwengwe said he will abide whatever outcome.
“Sakuyenela kuti andisunge or asandisunge ndikunenapano sindigula mafuta a sindigula MK50,000 nkuthila galimoto ya boma ndili ndi yanga Carina yomwe ndimangwilisa ntchito chifukwa uthilia ya boma lero mafuta ambiri mbiri maya akuchotsa udindo waluza mafuta ako. (It’s up to the President to fire or keep me as Minister. As at now, I don’t fuel a government vehicle but I use my personal vehicle so am very ready to leave),” said Gwengwe.
The Malawi Government signed the deal in November last year with the hope the Foundation would help in financing some already earmarked high profile projects.
