Minister of Mining, Dr. Albert Mbawala, has announced that the Ministry has completed a bill for the establishment of a Mining Regulatory Authority. .
According to Dr. Mbawala, the bill wil be presented to cabinet for additional guidance and review.
Dr. Mbawala said the proposed bill will assist in overcoming issues affecting illegal mining as well as smuggling of minerals.
During the press briefing with Government, Dr. Mbawala said the ministry is talking over with three companies namely; Mkango Resources Limited, Global Metal and Lotus Company Limited on Mining Development Agreement which will help the progress of mining sector.
Among others, he said the development will also help in creating jobs and wealth to Malawians in the country.
The bill, which aims to improve standards and oversight in the mining industry, will be presented to the government for consideration and, if passed, will be implemented to ensure the responsible and sustainable development of the mining sector.
This is a big step towards the development of the mining sector and will help in bringing transparency and accountability in the mining industry.
