President of the Providence Industrial Mission (PIM), Reverend Wilson Mitambo has advised political parties not to wear party regalia to 15th January John Chilembwe celebrations to avoid politicising the event.
In an interview with Malawi News Agency on Wednesday, Mitambo said that it is important for political parties to know that the Chilembwe day celebrations is not a political event but rather a national event aimed at celebrating a fallen hero who belonged to every Malawian regardless of political affiliations.
President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera will be the guest of honor at this year’s event.
According to Mitambo the preparations for the day are at an advanced stage and they are working on last minute preparations before the celebrations on Sunday.
Mitambo also hailed government for planning the Chilembwe day celebrations in good time which he said has made this year preparations well organised.
District Commissioner for Chiradzulu, Francis Matewere said he is happy with the progress made so far and is optimistic that by Friday everything will be done.
The Chilembwe Day Celebrations is a national event that takes place every year on 15 January at PIM campus in Chiradzulu District.
