A 6-year-old girl, Sarah Patrick, a Standard 1 learner at Kambwiri Primary School, has died after being electrocuted when she touched an ESCOM wire that was left hanging from a pole.
The tragic incident occurred during break time, when Sarah and her friends went to buy food.
According to eyewitnesses, Sarah and her friends were on their way to buy some snacks when they came across the wire hanging from the pole.
Without realizing the danger, Sarah touched the wire, causing her to be electrocuted.
Her friends immediately ran to get help, but it was too late. Sarah had already passed away by the time help arrived.
