President Lazarus Chakwera has announced that the commission of inquiry found no evidence linking any member of his cabinet to the arrest of Anti-Corruption Bureau Director General Martha Chizuma.

During a nation address at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, Chakwera stated that none of his cabinet ministers had prior knowledge of Chizuma’s arrest and were as surprised as the rest of the country when they saw the news on social media.

Despite this, the President called on any Malawians who have evidence to the contrary to present it to his office.

The arrest of Chizuma last year was a controversial topic, with the government side in parliament claiming ignorance on who ordered it.

This statement was met with skepticism by the general population, many of whom believed that a senior government official must have orchestrated the arrest.
