This morning, over 45 angry villagers from Mchinji’s Traditional Authority Mlonyeni stormed local agriculture offices to demand clarification on the failure to purchase AIP fertilizer.

The villagers claimed they have been waiting at the selling point for a week, following the offloading of a consignment of 1,000 bags of fertilizer which was transferred to other areas on security grounds.

Anthony Banda, one of the villagers, alleged that some responsible officers were demanding 10,000 Kwacha from every farmer in order for them to access the commodity.

The Director of Agriculture and Natural Resources for Mchinji, Evylin Chima, reassured the community that they will have access to AIP fertilizer as soon as possible and ensure the transparency in the distribution process to avoid the alleged corruption.
