The United States Embassy has applauded President Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s speech during his national address on the Commission of inquiry as he shows commitment of his government to fight against Corruption in the country.

According to a statement released by the Embassy, they welcome the President’s important steps taken to strengthen the fight against corruption.

“The United States will continue to support these efforts to help Malawi achieve its development goals,” the statement said.

In his national address on Wednesday, January 18th, 2023 Chakwera fired Director of Public Prosecutions ( DPP) Dr. Steven Kayuni after he used public office to solve his personal matters and Masauko Edwin Chamkakala has taken over his role with immediate effect.

He maintained Ms. Martha Chizuma as Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau highlighting that he considers here’s champion in the fight against corruption.

Chakwera also ordered Secretary to his office to bring all heads of state agencies together and discuss issues of proper coordination to ensure proper coordination between them.

He further ordered Inspector General of Police to refer the conduct of the two Deputy Inspector Generals to Police Service Commission for disciplinary action following an act of what he calls insubordination for refusing the President’s order to have Ms. Chizuma released unconditionally after being arrested.
