Police at Mponela in Dowa have taken into custody two men for allegedly being found in possession of Chamba, a type of cannabis, without a license.
The two men have been identified as 34-year-old Madalitso Phiri from Lilongwe and 36-year-old Alfred Charles from Kasungu.
According to Sergeant Macpatson Msadala, the Public Relations Officer for Mponela Police Station, the suspects were arrested today in Mkwinda Village in the district after the police received information that a motor vehicle, registration number BT 9918 Nissan Wingroad, had broken down along the Mtiti-Lipiri earth road and was loaded with Chamba.
“Efforts were made and officers managed to arrest two suspects while one is at large. They will appear before court soon to answer charges of being found in possession of Chamba without a licence,” said Msadala.
Possession of Chamba without a license is illegal in Malawi, and these suspects will have to face the consequence of their actions in the court of law.
