The dream of a preacher passing away in the pulpit has come true. Shortly after preaching, George Chiteto, the recently appointed Bishop of the Anglican Church in Dodoma, Tanzania, died suddenly.
On Saturday, September 3, just after giving the eulogy at the burial of the widow of another clergyperson at a church in Tanga, Chiteto passed away, according to the church’s website.
He had barely finished preaching during the service when he suddenly passed out from tiredness. He was transported to hospital, where he was declared dead. Just six days after being dedicated, Chiteto passed away.
On September 7, at the 59-year-funeral old’s service, a close friend disclosed that the late man of God frequently spoke about dying while in ministry.
“Mzee said he loved death. He repeatedly expressed his desire not to have a troublesome death but instead, kick the bucket while spreading the gospel,” Zacharia Mbogori.
Mbogori, who spent eight years closely collaborating with Chiteto, recounted a time in 2021 when the latter was hospitalized but still believed he would survive.
“I must die at the pulpit.”
