Some angry villagers around Nandumbo health centre in Balaka district have yesterday marched to the health facility asking the In-Charge and other health workers to leave the facility claiming they are adding up to cholera cases in that area.

Villagers did this on accusations that the Health Surveillance Assistance (HAS) have been injecting people with “contaminated cholera syringes”.

According to one of the workers at the facility, a Mr Banda who is a Health Surveillance Assistant (HSA), the angry villagers also destroyed his house and beat him up.

Health Authorities and the police in the district are yet to comment.

Balaka is registering a highest number of cholera cases every day with 44 cholera deaths so far, and Nandumbo and Ulongwe are the most affected areas.
