Information sourced by faceofmalawi indicates that estranged Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Secretary General Grelzeder Jeffrey on Wednesday shunned the party’s Central Executive emergency meeting held at former President Peter Mutharika’s retirement home in Mangochi.

Mutharika summoned the meeting after some DPP top blasts led by DPP Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa protested the appointment of some members into the National Governing Council (NGC)without their knowledge.

The top blasts penned DPP’s Administrative Secretary Francis Mphepo to withdraw the appointments or face unspecified action.

The move forced Mutharika to call for an emergency meeting where all top officials including Jeffrey wa Jeffrey to attend the meeting.

But surprisingly Jeffrey wa Jeffrey shunned the meeting.

Speaking in an interview with the press after the meeting Mutharika’s spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba said Jeffrey wa Jeffrey sent an apology.

“The Central Executive Committee has concluded a meeting which started at 10am and ended 5.45pm. The Secretary General Madam Grezelder Jeffrey did not attend the meeting as she sent a valid apology to the collective leadership and also gave her blessing for the meeting to take place,” said Namalomba.

Meanwhile, Namalomba has refused to disclose the outcome of the emergency meeting.
