Ministry of Education is set to hire 2, 605 female role model teachers in primary schools across the country in order to promote girls’ education.
Secretary for Education, Chikondano Mussa said the role model teachers, who will be engaged for a two year renewable contract, will be identified within the communities around primary schools.
She said the recruitment of the teachers will help in reducing drop out rate as they (teachers) will be great motivators to female learners.
“A Non Governmental Organization will be hired to undertake all the normal employment process,” she said.
The project is jointly financed by the World Bank, Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and the Malawi Government through Malawi Education Reform Programme (MERP).
