Two St. John’s Institute for Health students, Ivy Nkhata and Olivia Mazinga, have been arrested in Dedza, Malawi for allegedly possessing medical drugs suspected of being obtained illegally.

The students were on a three-month internship at Dedza District Hospital and were released back to school on February 4th, 2023.

According to the Dedza Police Public Relations Officer, Beatrice Jefita, the police received a tip-off about the students being in possession of the drugs and moved in to arrest them.

The police recovered a variety of medical drugs including Diclofenac, brufen, Amoxicillin, Abendazol, Promethazine, pregnancy kits, Amitriptyline, Ciprofloxacin, paracetamol, and Getacin.

The two suspects will appear in court soon to face charges of possessing medical drugs without a license.

Ivy Nkhata is from Euthini in Traditional Authority Chindi in Mzimba district while Olivia Mazinga is from Samama in Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi district.
