Information sourced by this publication indicates that some District Commissioners have accepted a decision by government to transfer them from their posts.

The development comes barely days after the Supreme Court of Appeal blocked the transfers of the DCs following an appeal by Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA).

The move also forced government to cancel the orientation of the DCs which was scheduled to take place on Monday this week.

The four DCs who have accepted their new posts are Ali Phiri of Chikwawa, Bennet Nkasala of Blantyre, Raphael Piringu of Zomba and Paul Kalilombe of Karonga.

“Following my posting to serve at Mental Hospital, I write to request that l be allowed to go and report at the Mental Hospital in Zomba under Ministry of Health. I would like you to remove me from the list of DCs that are on the matter currently in court contesting redeployment. I see no problem with government decision to assign me the new duties in the Ministry of Transport and Public Works,” Phiri wrote.

Nkasala was transferred to the Ministry of Mining to take up a position of Director of Administration while Kalilombe to the Ministry of Labour to take up a similar position.
